Codex Entry // A-10C “Quartermaster”
Pilot: Lt. Mara Vex
Status: Presumed KIA — Body Not Recovered
They say she was laughing over the comms when it happened.
Not panicked — laughing.
Last words recorded before signal loss:
“He’s in here with me.”
When recovery teams found the A-10, it was parked on the tarmac, canopy sealed from the inside.
The call-sign “Quartermaster” was carved into the glass — letters etched deep, as if scored by fingernails.
No trace of Lt. Vex. Only her flight harness. And blood on the seat.
Mechanics who tried to dismantle it reported burns through their gloves, visions and voices of the front lines of some forgotten war.
The base Chaplin ordered the beast to be been chained down and sealed in a hanger with drawn circles and wards painted across the hangar floor in oil and ash.
Some nights, guards swear they hear the A-10’s barrels ticking,
turning slow and patient in the dark.
Sometimes the engines rotate to life, one after another,
shaking the hangar like it's remembering war.
When the nights turn black, and the air turns pink and men cry for help,
some swear they see her —
a phantom bird screaming through the clouds,
guns roaring, wings cutting thunder —
striking only the enemy, then gone before radar catches a trace.
They say Quartermaster’s missions will never be done.
Her service continues.
Her oath endures.
And the smell of smoke, metal, and whiskey never truly leaves the air.
And only the strongest will be co-pilot.
